    Access to media is crucial for effectively advocating climate change and addressing global warming. While vital, the technologies behind these messages can have their own environmental drawbacks. Consider the mobile industry, for instance. It plays a pivotal role in disseminating crucial information about climate change. Yet, the technology involves powerful transmitters that can cause health concerns and often require clearing vegetation and other natural features for their installation.

    While we might weigh the benefits against the drawbacks, every effort counts. Just as individual votes collectively shape elections and history, our collective actions can influence the course of environmental conservation.

    Regrettably, there are no entirely eco-friendly methods to convey messages about global warming and greenhouse effects. Even distributing pamphlets and brochures on climate change can inadvertently promote deforestation. Using recycled materials, although commendable, may divert resources away from potentially more significant global issues.

    When scrutinized closely, the process of creating products from recycled materials isn’t entirely “green” either. This raises questions about whether well-intentioned green initiatives sometimes result in a net environmental loss. Is the perception of green all that matters in a process? While environmentalists work tirelessly to promote sustainability, there are inherent trade-offs.

    Conventional communication approaches may fail to reach the vast population segment needed to drive global change. Even so, there are many people around the globe trying to merely survive daily than to be able to make sustainable choices. While word of mouth remains a powerful tool, it must be complemented by media coverage to ensure the message is accurately conveyed. Distorted information is a common challenge with purely oral communication, giving rise to gossip.

    It is imperative that we, as global citizens, take responsibility for reducing our environmental impact. Striking the right balance is essential to ensure that our efforts always push us forward rather than inadvertently contributing to the issues we seek to address. This calls for a thoughtful and holistic approach to environmental conservation.

    Staircase to Success

    Ever thought about what would be a good analogy for the progression you want to make in your life or career? How about envisioning the progression like climbing the staircase of a multi-storey building…without using the elevators? In this context an elevator would represent leverage given to you by someone else as an advantage, opportunity or benefit. Without that leverage, you must climb the stairs with your own energy, motivation, determination and persistence.

    Now, let’s take this analogy a bit further.

    Wherever you are on your stairs, so long as you haven’t reached the top, there is always one more tread to climb. And, unless you’ve reached the ceiling or roof, there will always be one more level to go…i.e. one more rise and tread combination for you to maneuver.

    The effort used to get to the present tread won’t help you to get to the next, nor the next, and so on. Each time you must summon up new motivation, determination and strength to get from one tread to the other… and from one level to the next.

    For those who are already climbing, ensure you’re in the right “building” (profession, relationship, network, career, etc.) and on the correct staircase (group, team, values, attitude, session, etc.)! The correct staircase should take you where you want to go, whether in your career, life goals, personal self-actualization or short-term accomplishments!

    But should you have doubts during this ascent, stop climbing. Evaluate your situation carefully. And don’t see the fact that you’re moving or that you’ve invested a lot to that point (sunken cost syndrome), as a deterrent to reassess your priorities and start over if you must.

    If you realize you’re climbing the wrong staircase, stop and go find the one you should be climbing, i.e. the one that will take you to the summit of your dreams and goals.
